『aisubureikingu/aiseubeureiking』은 일본과 한국의 작가들이 다양한 방식으로 협업을 시도하는 전시이다. 전시 제목은 비즈니스 미팅이나 워크숍의 시작 단계에서 사용되는, 딱딱한 분위기와 긴장을 풀고 참여자들이 서로 편안하게 소통할 수 있도록 돕는 용어 “ice breaking”을 일본과 한국에서 각각 로마자로 표기한 두 형태를 병렬적으로 제시한 것이다. “ice breaking”은 두 나라에서 외래어로 받아들여 일상적으로 사용되지만, 발음과 억양은 미묘하게 다르다. 이번 전시는 이러한 미세한 차이와 공통점, 역사적 맥락, 그리고 이를 인식하는 방식을 작업을 통해 공유하고 교류를 위한 첫 번째 “aisubureikingu/aiseubeureiking”을 실천하는 자리이다.

전시는 작품의 형태를 사전에 정하지 않고 일상의 커뮤니케이션을 통해 현장에서 공동 제작을 진행한 이시게 켄타와 황영호, 서로 우편으로 물건을 주고 받으며 그 인프라 속에서 생성되는 흔적을 작품화한 orm과 구기정, 서울의 거리에서 만난 사람들과의 간단한 게임을 바탕으로 작업한 다카하시 센 등 다양한 실험적 협업의 결과물이 소개된다.

『aisubureikingu/aiseubeureiking』は様々な形での日本と韓国の参加者による共同制作が行われる展覧会です。このタイトルは、日本でも韓国でも主にビジネスシーン、とりわけ会議前や研修などの冒頭に行われる参加者間の硬い雰囲気や緊張を取り除き、リラックスした状態にするタームを指す外来語の“ice breaking”のそれぞれの国でのローマ字表記を並列したものです。‘ice breaking’はどちらの国でも意味と音を自国の言葉に取り入れ、そのまま使用していますが微妙に異なる発音、アクセントを持ちます。本展では、「aisubureikingu/aiseubeureiking」に代表される互いの差異、共通点、歴史、さらにはそれらの認識の方法などを制作を通して、共有し、受け入れ 、今後の交流のきっかけとなる最初の“aisubureikingu/aiseubeureiking”を行います。

会場では、作品の形態を決めずに日常のコミュニケーションを頼りに実地で共同制作を行った石毛健太とYoungho Hwang、互いに荷物を郵送し合いインフラの中で作品が獲得する痕跡を作品化したOrmとGijeong Goo、ソウルの街で出会う人々との簡単なゲームを作品化した髙橋銑といった、様々な形での実験的な共同制作の成果が展示されます。

『aisubureikingu/aiseubeureiking』 is an exhibition where artists from Japan and Korea attempt collaboration in diverse forms. The exhibition title presents two parallel forms of the term ‘ice breaking’ – used at the outset of business meetings or workshops to ease the stiff atmosphere and tension, helping participants communicate comfortably with one another – rendered in Romanised form as it is used in Japanese and Korean respectively. While ‘ice breaking’ is accepted as a loanword and used routinely in both countries, its pronunciation and intonation differ subtly. This exhibition serves as a space to share these minute differences and commonalities, their historical context, and the ways we perceive them through the works, thereby practising the first ‘aisubureikingu/aiseubeureiking’ for exchange.

The exhibition presents the results of diverse experimental collaborations: Kenta Ishige and Youngho Hwang, who co-produced works on-site through everyday communication without predetermining the form; Orm and Gijeong Goo, who exchanged objects by post and transformed the traces generated within that infrastructure into artworks; and Sen Takahashi, whose work is based on simple games played with people encountered on the streets of Seoul.
